Seven delegates from the Borno State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) have reportedly lost their lives in an auto-crash.
The auto-crash happened on Wednesday along the Damaturu/Potiskum highway on their way to Abuja for the national convention of the party which is due to hold this weekend.
Reports from sources suggests that five other persons sustained severe injuries in the accident which happened at about 10:15am.
One of the deceased has been identified as Hajiya Saratu Ibrahim Biu,
a staunch party woman. Until her death, Hajiya Biu was the Assistant Public Relations Officer,
Borno Social Media Forum (BSF) – the campaign forum of the state
governor, Alhaji Kashim Shettima. The Sector Commander, Federal Road
Safety Corps (FRSC) Yobe State, Alhaji Yusuf Garba,
who confirmed the incident, revealed that a good Samaritan informed him
of the accident and he immediately mobilized his rescue team to the
scene. He said the accident happened when a Volkswagen Saloon car and a
Honda Perfection had a head-on- collusion while on high speed. He
confirmed the death of APC stalwart, Hajiya Saratu Ibrahim Biu and six
others who were travelling to Abuja for the APC national convention
scheduled to hold between Thursday , June 12 to Saturday, June 14.
Garba also added that over N90,000 was recovered from the scene of
the accident, including some other items belonging to the victims as he
disclosed that the injured persons have been taken to a hospital in Damaturu for treatment.
