PHARM. OKAFOR CALLS FOR IMPROVED PHARMACEUTICAL PRACTICE

The Chief Executive Officer, May & Baker Nigeria Plc, Mr. Nnamdi Okafor, has said that pharmaceutical companies in the country should up their standard to be at par with international practices.

Okafor , spoke when the acting Registrar, Pharmaceutical Council of Nigeria, Mrs. Gloria Abumere, paid a courtesy visit to the organisation in Ota, Ogun State.

He said,“ We should work to create pharmaceutical manufacturing facilities that compare in every respect with what is obtainable in Europe, America and Asia. There is an urgent need for closing of ranks to enable the industry to draw the requisite synergy for a greater pharmacy profession. The PCN should take up the fatherly responsibility of bringing all interests in the profession together.”

Okafor also commended the government’s initiative on the drug distribution guidelines document inaugurated by the Minister of Health, Prof. Onyebuchi Chukwu, and called for its proper implementation.
He said, “We commend government initiative on the drug distribution guidelines document but we hope that the Federal Government will be careful in its implementation to avoid creating monopoly or oligopoly at the top of the drug distribution channel.”
